In a ceremony held on April 17 in Room 105 of the Rassman Building, Cadet Colonel Juan Carlos Jara of the Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 at Angelo State University was distinguished with the National Defense Committee ROTC Medal.

This accolade, awarded by the Pocahontas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, honors Jara for his "academic excellence, dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership and fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of the Reserve Officers Training Corps."

The National Defense Committee ROTC Medal was presented by Christy Vanoss, the Pocahontas Chapter regent, and Betty Mayer, the Pocahontas Chapter ROTC chairperson. Their presentation was concise yet celebratory, focusing on the outstanding qualities that Jara has consistently demonstrated throughout his tenure at the university.
