On Thursday, Jan. 18, the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team took on the Midwestern State University Mustangs in Wichita Falls, defeating them 93-71 as their 13th win in a 13-5 overall score.

The first quarter kicked off with senior forward Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant scoring a 3-pointer, followed shortly with a jump shot from a Mustang. The Rambelles then widened their lead with a jump shot and layup by McGhee-Pleasant and a layup by sophomore forward Aicha Ndir. The fourth minute saw two layups from the Mustangs, alongside one by junior forward Madeline Stephens. Following a layup by senior guard Sawyer Lloyd, the Mustangs would tie the score 13-13 with a 3-pointer and a layup. Shortly after scoring a jump shot, Lloyd would assist in a layup scored by Stephens. The remaining two minutes of the quarter saw the Mustangs score three jump shots and a layup, alongside two layups by Stephens and freshman guard Madi Lumsden.

The second quarter began with a 3-pointer by Lloyd, followed by a layup from MSU. The second minute saw MSU take the lead with two free throws from the Mustangs following a foul by Lloyd. A minute later, sophomore guard Landry Morrow would score two free throws following a foul by the Mustangs. The fourth minute saw the Mustangs maintain the lead with a 3-pointer and a layup despite a layup from McGhee-Pleasant. Following an attempt at a layup from the Mustangs, blocked by sophomore center Keniah Williams, the teams exchanged 3-pointers, with ASU’s scored by McGhee-Pleasant. After a free throw by McGhee-Pleasant, MSU scored a jump shot and a layup for a 32-37 lead. With a jump shot, free throw and layup by McGhee-Pleasant,  a layup by Lumsden and a layup by the Mustangs, the score would tie at 39-39. Taking the lead in the last minute of the quarter, Stephens scored two free throws and a layup.

The third quarter's first few minutes saw the Rambelles increase their lead with two layups and a jump shot by Stephens alongside a 3-pointer by Morrow. Following a layup from MSU, Morrow would rush in for a layup of her own in a fast break. The Mustangs would score a 3-pointer in the fifth minute, soon followed by a jump shot by McGhee-Pleasant. Following up, the teams would exchange 3-pointers, with ASUs' by McGhee-Pleasant. After a layup and free throw by the Mustangs, Morrow scored a layup off a rebound from a missed layup by the Mustangs. After a jump shot by the Mustangs, the Rambelles would receive points via a 3-pointer and jump shot by Lloyd, a jump shot and free throw by Morrow and a layup by Stephens. After a jump shot and free throw from the Mustangs, the third quarter would conclude with a layup by Morrow. 

The final quarter saw a 20-point lead by the Rambelles following a jump shot by McGhee-Pleasant. MSU followed up with two layups and three free throws. The following two minutes saw a 3-pointer by Lloyd, a jump shot by McGhee-Pleasant, two free throws by Stephens and a free throw by the Mustangs. Sophomore forward Alexandra Bednarczyk would score two layups for a 23-point lead. After two free throws from MSU, the Rambelles scored two layups by McGhee-Pleasant and Lloyd. The remaining two minutes of the game saw six free throws by the Mustangs and a 3-pointer by junior guard Madisen Honea for a final score of 93-71.

With their win against the MSU Mustangs, the Ramebelles’ overall score stands at 13-5, with their next game being against the Cameron University Aggies in Lawton, Oklahoma on Saturday, Jan. 20.
